Former HF staff wins trip to trade show in Germany

Hai Phung, who worked in our HCMC office in 2016, is among the three winners of the International Business Acceleration pitch contest who will showcase their products at the upcoming Haus-Garten-Freizeit trade fair in Leipzig, Germany in 2019. Hai's company Saado Vietnam offers trendy sandals for local and international markets.

The International SEPT Program of the University of Leipzig, Germany, organized the pitch competition, which was held Dec. 6 in Ho Chi Minh City. The event was a great opportunity for EMAT students looking to expand their businesses internationally, especially in Germany or other countries in Europe.

The 14 contestants were from various industries, including the food and beverage, footwear, houseware and service sectors. Among them were participants of current and past cohorts of the Export Manager Advanced Training Program, a short course developed by the Hinrich Foundation and Leipzig University.

During the competition, the contestants each had five minutes to present their business models and convince the judges of their products' superior viability and marketability to German consumers. Besides Hai's Saado Vietnam, the companies who won the judges over were Orient Handicraft, with its eco-friendly bamboo products and Green Kingdom Mushroom, with its healthy mushroom snack.

The city of Leipzig will sponsor the winners to attend the trade fair Haus-Garten-Freizeit in Leipzig from Feb. 23 to March 3, 2019. Showcasing garden, home and lifestyle products, the event offers 850 exhibitors from 20 countries and attracts approximately 175,000 visitors.
The following people served as judges for the competition:

- Dr. Erik Wende, Ph.D. (Co-founder & CEO of EWERK GmbH)
- Dr. Utz Dornberger, Ph.D. (Leipzig University, Director of SEPT Program)
