Employers excited about the Hinrich Postgraduate Diploma in International Trade

The Hinrich Foundation and RMIT University Vietnam co-hosted an executive roundtable Ho Chi Minh City with more than 40 executives from adidas, Samsung, DHL, Coca-Cola, Walmart, HSBC, KPMG and other top firms.

The discussion on November 20 centered on international companies’ next-generation leadership talent requirements to stay competitive in our rapidly changing global environment. The conversation was an opportunity to hear from employer partners regarding how best to work together to develop the RMIT Hinrich Postgraduate Diploma in International Trade (HPgD).

Executives agreed with the Foundation’s observation that a critical success factor for graduates in this sector is exceptional cross-cultural communication, sales and marketing skills, a global mindset and a high degree of self-awareness. There was further agreement that a critical gap exists in the market between industry’s needs and available master’s coursework which prepares graduates for exceptional trade leadership careers.
To ensure that the HPgD meets the needs of employers, we will form an Employer Advisory Board to ensure that the HPgD is developed by employers, for employers.

We firmly believe – as does RMIT – that the single most important measure of success for our education and skills development initiatives is to have enhanced the living standards of every graduate as a result of employer acceptance. That is, our objective is to have employers lining up to work together with us to continually ensure the relevance of the coursework and training, and to get first access to our upwardly bound graduates. As RMIT Vietnam’s President, Gael McDonald, said: “It’s all about the jobs, baby!”

We plan to host a roundtable in Hong Kong in early 2019 to gain regional input and engagement.
