Nineteen students awarded 2015 Global Production Engineering & Management Scholarships

Nineteen students were presented with Master of Science scholarships at the third Scholarship Award Ceremony of adidas Group, its suppliers and charitable organization the Hinrich Foundation at the Adidas Sourcing Limited Ho Chi Minh Representative Office on Oct.23, 2015.

The scholars will study Global Production Engineering & Management Program at Vietnamese-German University which provides German teaching techniques , the quality standards of Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) and cutting-edge manufacturing curriculum.

The scholarship’s progressive “work-integrated learning” approach provides scholars a six-month hiatus in their studies to intern with sponsoring companies. Scholars will receive exposure to the real working environment of the suppliers’ production facilities, allowing them to develop their professional skills, hone their academic pursuits and better prepare  for their careers upon graduation. They will also receive training and support from managerial mentors in  the sponsoring companies.

The guests included representatives from adidas, adidas’ partner suppliers and the Hinrich Foundation along with the 19 scholarship recipients and their parents.

Ceremony agenda 1Thomas Scholze, adidas senior sourcing director of footwear in Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar, congratulated scholarship recipients together with their parents attending the ceremony and thanked the 11 partnering suppliers as well as the foundation.

Ceremony agenda 3Two General Managers for adidas partner suppliers, Ky Lee (photo 2) and Chris Lee (photo 3) encouraged students to “love what they do and do what they love” and “stay hungry” for a continuous learning and improvement.

Vietnamese scholar Pham Anh Duy thanked all the sponsors and shared his feeling on receiving the scholarship.

Cambodian scholar Ean Tola shared the childhood difficulties he faced and what scholarships mean to a poor students, saying he would like to contribute back to the education of poor children in the future.

“I felt so happy and thankful because I could talk with my co-sponsor from Can Sport Shoes, Hinrich Foundation facilitators who have helped me a lot so far and to be the host in the culture quiz which gave me such a valuable chance to teach people about my culture,” said Bopha Eung.

adidas hosted a discussion panel among key people of the group and its supplier to help new scholar understand the industry trend and development, important personality to succeed in the career path, the working environment and career development with adidas and its partners.

About the author – Ho Thanh Thuy

Thuy Ho, based in Ho Chi Minh City, works as Hinrich Foundation’s Education & training coordinator. Her job is involved in trade-related talent development through scholarships, internships and work placements offered by Hinrich Foundation and its partners.

She started the career promoting sustainable global trade with Hinrich Foundation as an Export consultant, providing assistance to Vietnamese small- and medium-sized exporters to enhance their international sales skills, boost their exports, and generate employment.

Thuy was awarded the Hinrich Global Trade Leader Scholarship to study MA in International Journalism at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2014.
